Pears Overview

The Pear is both tree of genus Pyrus and the name of its edible pomaceous fruit. The trees are medium sized and are often tall with a narrow crown, most are deciduous but a few varieties in Southeast Asia are evergreen. Most trees are hardy against weather conditions and can withstand temperatures of around -30°C in the winter. The fruit is very similar to an apple in terms of cultivation, propagation and pollination and they are both related to the quince. Pears are rich in vitamin A and C and are much less allergenic than many other fruits.
